４．Title (English): Resources for English Learning: Contrast in Outcomes in Japan & Nepal

　　Title (Japanese): なぜ英語が身につかない？ネパールと日本：英語教育の違いを考える

 

５．Abstract:

I will introduce some of the teaching materials used in English education in Japan and 

contrast it with materials used in Nepal. How do the images and contents in textbooks 

and course materials influence learner views on accessibility and attitudes to English? 

We will look at specific examples and discuss some of the outcomes observed in terms 

of influence on use and ownership of language.

日本とネパール、それぞれの国で使われている英語の教科書や教材を紹介しながら、そこに掲載

されている画像やコンテンツを比較。 二国の英語教育の違いが、英語を学ぶ人（子どもたち）の

姿勢や考え方に対してどのような影響を与えているのか？ネパールと日本で英語教育に携わってきた

経験から感じる「ひとつの視点」を述べていきます。

 

６．Profile: 

Ann Mayeda is a professor at Konan Women’s University. In addition to her teaching duties, 

she has conducted workshops and teacher-training programs for pre- and in-service primary 

and secondary school teachers in Japan, the Philippines, Nepal, and Bhutan. Her research 

interests are in extensive reading, learner development and issues in autonomy. She is also 

an author and editor of ELL graded readers on focusing on global issues and SDGs.

マエダ アン 甲南女子大学教授。教職に加えて、日本、フィリピン、ネパール、ブータンの小学校および

中等教育の教職課程および現職教師を対象にワークショップや教師研修プログラムを実施。専門分野は、

多読、学習者の発達、および自律的学習である。地球規模の問題と SDGs に焦点を当てた ELL

多読リーダーの著者兼編集者でもある。
